Life

Busy Times

Happy May, people! Can you believe it’s already May? What happened? January lasted a million years it seems, then I took a breath and February was gone, March just kept on marching, and then somehow April passed on by. Now it’s May. Wow. It’s been such a crazy year!

I hope y’all are doing well. My state is slowly opening back up in phases. Hopefully by the end of summer we’ll be back in the swing of things.

Life here has been crazy. My dad got another job, but it’s in a different state. This time, though, he’s taking the rv and hauling his car on a trailer. It’ll save quite a bit of money as opposed to renting hotels by the week.

Also, today my mom goes in for her pre-op clearance appointment. This will determine if she’s healthy enough for surgery. We both feel that she won’t be given clearance, especially since all this virus stuff and her diabetes.

And in other news, I planted a small garden in the back yard. It’s been good for me to get out and get some fresh air and sunshine. We don’t have a tiller, so I had to work the soil using tools I had on hand. My arms are a little sore, but I think I may get a tan out of it all. 😁

My busyness has really worn down my shoes to the point that the soles are almost completely flat. Not good, especially since I have flat feet. My bacons were aching for sure last night. I have to haul water to water the garden in the back yard, and there’s a small incline. Not to mention we’re situated on 3/4 of an acre. Not a lot to some people, but it’s a pretty good walk for me. I’m not complaining. Please don’t take it that way. Just stating facts. I enjoy moving around. I hope to lose weight from it all. And maybe get some delicious watermelon to share with the neighbors.😁 I digress, though. I was talking about shoes. My shoes have worn down, and I noticed a couple of holes starting to form around my toes. Yes, I really wear my shoes out. 😂 I wanted to buy some shoes that were made in the USA, though, because I want to support my fellow Americans during this crazy time. If we support each other, with God’s help we’ll make it through all this. I set out searching for some American made shoes. Surprisingly, there are a few companies, but the prices are pretty expensive for my budget. Paying almost $200 for a pair of shoes isn’t feasible for me right now. I needed a good shoe at a good price or at a sale price. Enter P.F. Flyers. They have a line of about 3 or 4 shoes that are made in the USA. Made in Boston, to be exact. They’re pricey, too, but the shoe I was looking at in my size was on sale for $80. Now, I have the BeFrugal app on my iPad, and that gave me 20% off and free shipping. In the end, I got a pair of shoes for $77. Five of those dollars were tax, so I actually got the shoes for $72. I’m really excited for them to come in! They look really comfortable.

I’ll admit, though, I didn’t realize that P.F. Flyers were a real shoe company. I remember them being talked about in a movie, but I thought it was a fictional shoe, especially since they look a lot like Converse. I was wrong. My mom told me she remembers that they were all the rage when she was a kid.

Once my garden starts sprouting and showing signs of life, I’ll get a picture of it. My dad made me a garden bed out of some aged cedar planks we had lying around, and I just worked up the soil inside the bed frame. I also got some marigolds at the garden center and planted them in the corners to help with bugs. I hope and pray that my garden goes well this year. I’ve got a lot of goodies planted. Watermelon, cantaloupe, carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, bell pepper and jalapeños. Our soil seems really rich. As I was cultivating it, it was almost black. Our neighbors diagonally to us have a large garden planted, and their dirt is mostly red clay. I still put some fruit and veggie food in the soil though, to give the seeds a little kickstart.

Well, that’s my update for today. I’m still waiting on my flower garden to get to where I can get a good picture of it. Maybe next year I’ll plant two boxes of seeds.

Until next time, stay healthy my friends! 🤗
