Today’s Bible Reading- 2 Chronicles Chapters 1-3 & John Chapter 12 Verses 1-19.
Good morning, my friends. I hope you’re well. It’s a lovely day here. The sun is out, it’s a bit cooler than normal, and our high is projected to be about 81 degrees today.
The garden is doing well. I didn’t get everything I wanted to do done yesterday, but I got a good bit. The hornet nests are gone. Turns out that two of the three were active. I found a pet-safe hornet spray at Lowe’s and I used that instead of the Spectricide. After clearing the nests out and the dead hornets, I used a diluted vinegar to wipe down the door and the floor where the over spray had landed.
Some other things I managed to get done were buying and transplanting another tomato plant. This one is older and much stronger. I cleared out a raised bed I have and put it in there with a mixture of the soil already in there and manure. I trained the cucumber and zucchini plants, and I sprinkled Sevin dust on the potatoes, and the tomato plant, and the rose bush.
I accidentally overcooked the hamburgers yesterday, but they were still good. I’d rather have a slightly overcooked burger than an undercooked one. My breakfast this morning is leftover jambalaya. It’s good but very salty and it has quite a heat to it. I put some barbecue sauce on it to cut the salt and spice. Tonight’s supper will be beef tostadas. Mom really enjoyed the chicken ones last week, so I’m going to try beef out this week. I’ll use the same vegetables, but will substitute ground beef and taco seasoning for the chicken and fajita seasoning.
I pulled some peas off the vine yesterday and tried a pod. So good. Just the right amount of snap and so, so sweet! This is going to be a good year for peas.
Completely off topic, but it is now June! That means we are headed into summer and it’s officially hurricane season. I’m going to keep our patriotic wreath up until Labor Day. That’ll be the marking of the last days of summer here, and the hope of fall coming in. Our summer usually starts late April/early May and lasts till mid-October. It’s been a bit of a wonky year, though, so maybe we’ll have a short summer? I don’t know. I’ve heard some chitter chatter that we’re going to have a cooler summer than normal this year. We’ll see.
On a side note, but very important, my neighbor could use your prayers. Sure, I don’t trust him with our vehicles, but that doesn’t mean I won’t pray for him. He was chatting with Mom yesterday and was telling her that his mom is very sick. She’s stopped eating and he doesn’t know what to do for her. He called his sister and asked her to come and see what she could do. I don’t know if she will or not. This morning, as I was reading my Bible, I heard an ambulance and it stopped at my neighbor’s house. I’m assuming they took his mom to the hospital. He borrowed his nephew’s car to follow the ambulance, and he’s just arrived home. His mom is very old and frail, and add complete dementia to that. I don’t think she’s long for this world. Prayers for her and for him would be greatly appreciated.
That’s all for now, folks. I’d like to check on the garden this morning, and I may spend some time knitting today. I’d like to get that second sock started so I have something to keep me on track. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends. ❤
