Garden Thoughts

Today’s Bible Reading- Psalm Chapters 79-81 & Romans Chapter 8 Verses 1-17.

Good morning, my friends. I hope you’re well. I had a bit of a rough night last night. My allergies were acting up and I ended up putting some Vick’s on my nose. I had some joint pain as well, but that could be due to the rain we’re supposed to be getting this weekend. Maybe.

Our high today is expected to be 85* with a 50% chance of rain. It had been 40% about a half hour ago, so something has changed in the forecast.

I found a shelf yesterday at Hobby Lobby that I can put my herb garden on! It was on sale for $40, and I know that’s a good price. Some of the same types of shelves I’ve looked at aren’t any less than $70. Another nice thing is that I can fold it! That is super handy.

Already this morning, I’ve washed Gracie’s food bowl and given her a fresh batch, I washed her fountain, and I’ve balanced my bank account from that little shopping spree I did yesterday. I am currently enjoying my first cup of coffee and it’s a bit overcast outside.

In regards to the garden, I believe I’m going to wait until the wood chips arrive to get a sense of how large it’s actually going to be. A standard delivery is 20 cubic yards, and I’m wanting the chips to be a good 10-12 inches deep. I think I’ve figured out that I’ll need about 4 trellises made. One for the tomatoes, one for the cucumbers, one for the pumpkin and butternut together, and one to grow cantaloupe and watermelon together. It’ll be a bit pricey but worth it, I think. One cattle panel runs about $30 in my area. I need one for each trellis. I need 2-4 T-posts for each trellis as well. T-posts run about $5 per post. I can get a big bag of T-post clips for around $6. I thought we had a post pounder, but I’m not sure. I’ll have to ask my dad. If I need to get one of those, they are about $35. The nice thing about the trellises, though, is that I can use them for years to come. They aren’t a one season and done kind of thing. Maybe one year I could try my hand at growing grapes! I can also use the inside of the trellis to grow things that do better in shaded areas, like lettuce. The space won’t be wasted.

With my herb garden, I’ve taken fabric paint in bright colors and I’ve labeled the pots according to what will be growing in them. One pot says English Thyme, one says Peppermint and so on and so forth. I actually need to purchase 4 bigger pots as the little ones I have now are a bit too small for the herbs that will be growing.

Meanwhile, the cats are enjoying the food pouches. Gracie has already picked her favorite. Chicken and pumpkin. I haven’t had any issues with lots of food left over. I don’t know what the neighbors are going to do about their house. It sounds like the house will have to be razed and they’ll have to build a new one.

That’s all I have for now, folks. My coffee cup is almost empty and what’s left has gone cold. I also have cats to feed and my Bible to read. It’s going to be a chill day today. My laundry is caught up, my sheets are changed, I have three bills to send out but that’s it. I may chill out and work on my sock today. Just kind of enjoy the day. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends. ❤
