Garden Chatter

Today’s Bible Reading- Psalm Chapters 112-115 & 1 Corinthians Chapter 1.

Good morning, my friends. I hope you’re well. I’m slowly feeling better. Last night was the first night I went to bed without a breathing treatment, and I think I did pretty good. I woke up around 1:00 in the morning, took my thyroid medication, and then didn’t wake back up until just before 7:00. I’m currently on my second cup of coffee and I’ve already read my Bible.

Today’s weather is going to be a high of 88* with a 60% chance of rain. The sky had some nice shades of pink and orange this morning, so I think we just might get that rain. Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; red sky in the morning, sailor’s take warning. My Mom taught me that when I was a kid.

So yesterday, I ended up not working on my sock at all. Instead, it took me several hours to get my garden planned out. What goes where and how many. Logistics. I love stuff like that. I believe that the Lord really helped me get it together, too. It’s going to be quite the spread! I’m only going to do one ground cherry plant since I’ve never actually tasted them before. I have two types of cucumbers, one for pickling and one for fresh eating. I may not do the sweet potatoes. I’m thinking I’ll just do the Yukon. If they’re as delicious as this year’s crop, we’ll really power through them!

Yesterday, I was watching a video on YouTube about gardening and canning (seems to be a habit lately), and this particular channel is experiencing a power outage due to storms. They have a generator to keep their fridge and freezer going, but they were using a propane-powered appliance outside to use their pressure canner. It suddenly dawned on me. Hey, that’s a good idea. If you’re scared of pressure canning in the house, do it outside! Ha! I also had a dumbo moment. This person was making corn cob syrup, and it didn’t dawn on me until they were talking about making pecan pies that it’s corn syrup. I went through the entire video thinking pancake syrup, and then it hits me. It’s dark corn syrup. What a goose I am.

Today’s goals are to get some bills paid. I have the taxes on my car to pay. Mom has a prescription that’ll be ready around 3:00, but we don’t know which Walmart has it. I have my grocery list already, so I may use the Walmart pickup to get all that done in one fell swoop. I also need to get my laundry done. The hamper overfloweth. That is not an overstatement.

Supper last night hit the spot. It was delicious. There’s just enough left for one person, and I believe I’ll be munching on that soon. Mom isn’t one for leftovers, so I usually eat them. The only thing she really likes to eat as a leftover is spaghetti and lasagna.

I’m thinking about where I want to plant strawberries next year. I had thought about using the two planters in front of the porch, but I realized yesterday that unless my neighbor gets her tomcats fixed (which is highly unlikely), they’ll probably spray the plants. I don’t want tomcat flavored strawberries, so I’ll have to find another place to grow them. I could potentially do some hanging baskets with strawberries, but eh. Nah. There’s gotta be a spot somewhere.

That’s all I’ve got for today, folks. I’m getting a little better every day, and soon I’ll be back to my normal, irritating self. Love you all and until next time, stay safe my friends. ❤
